Our Leadership Our Founder:
The American Author’s Association was the brainchild of our Founder and first President, bestselling author W. H. (Bill) McDonald Jr. Never one to keep a good thing to himself, Bill began searching for opportunities to help other writers reach their own goals. Over time, his desire to help his fellow authors began to resolve into a simple but powerful vision -- to build a nation-wide community of writers and creative people, whose members encourage one another, mentor each other, and assist each other on the road to success. Bill has recently passed the mantle of leadership on to our new President, Maria Edwards, but we have asked him to accept the permanent office of President Emeritus. He remains a member in good standing and a trusted advisor to our senior officers and our general membership.
President: Our new President, Maria Edwards, has taken Bill’s vision to heart. She is determined to continue in the fine tradition established by our founder.
The wife of award-winning novelist Jeff Edwards, Maria is the former Vice President of Military Writer’s Society of America. Well known among authors and publishers as an innovative book marketer, she specializes in teaching authors how to leverage the power of cooperative book promotion events.
Vice President: Award-winning poet Joe Fabel is the author of historical treatises, children’s stories, short stories, and several collections of poetry, including The Price of Freedom.
He participates in Northern California Historical Society gatherings, as well as restoration projects and Civil War Round Table discussions and lectures. Joe has been named Poet Laureate of the Elk Grove Historical Society.
