Title:  The Man Who Spoke With Cats

Author:  T. E. Watson

The Man Who Spoke With Cats is a charming Scottish folktale about family, friendship, love, and hope.

Tavish, Little Face, Blue Eyes, and Cleo are happy cats. They live with old man MacGreggor in his homey little cottage in the Scottish countryside. In the mornings, the cats sun themselves on the porch, while MacGreggor sits in the porch swing and sips his tea. The cats are more than pets to the old man. They’re his friends and his family. He talks to them every day, and they talk to him in return.

On festival day, MacGreggor tells his feline companions that he is off to the village to visit old friends, and ride the carousel, and dance until his feet come alive. He’s looking forward to the festival, and he might even bring home some salmon or smoked herring for his cat friends.

While he’s off to the village, Little Face will spend the day in the barley fields, chasing midgies, and hunting mice. Blue Eyes will find a warm spot on top of the stone wall to sleep in the sun. Tavish will lounge under his favorite tree, and Cleo will rest in the porch swing.

When suppertime comes, MacGreggor returns, to find Little Face, Tavish, and Cleo waiting for him. But there’s no sign of Blue Eyes. She’s gone… Blue Eyes doesn’t come home that night, or the day after, or the day after that. MacGreggor and the three cats are very worried. They look everywhere for their friend, but Blue Eyes is nowhere to be found.

At last, Blue Eyes returns. She’s been visiting with a sick neighbor, sharing the kind of love and caring that she’s come to know in MacGreggor’s home. Her friends are glad that Blue Eyes is back, and her return reminds them that each of us has the power to touch the lives of the people around us.

The Man Who Spoke With Cats is entertaining and heartwarming, with beautiful illustrations that are sure to delight children from five to ninety-five.
