Author: Kent Whitaker & Sheila Simmons Title: Texas Hometown Cookbook Publisher: Great American Publishers Reviewer: Marilyn Meredith – AAA Member
Another in the State Hometown Cookbook Series, Simmons and Whitaker have gathered together the best and most famous of the recipes cooked in kitchens all over the state for the Texas Hometown Cookbook. There is a great variety of food from Cajun and Creole, to Tex-Mex and old-fashioned Cowboy cooking. I was intrigued by Minced Jalapeno Cast-Iron Seared Steak with Tequila Cream Sauce and another was the recipe for George’s Dancing Texas Chicken cooked over a half-full can of beer. (I suspect the cook drinks the other half.) My husband loved the Baked Strawberry Flan. Like all the books in the series, besides trying out the intriguing recipes, this is a book to peruse for the pure fun of it, checking out the photos and the interesting facts about hometowns all over the Lone-Star State. Highly recommended.
