Title:  More If You Had to Choose, What Would You Do?

Author:  Sandra McLeod Humphrey

Publisher:  Prometheus Books

Reviewer: Karl L. Kruger – AAA Member Reviewer

Carrying on with her series on ethics and behavior, Humphrey presents the reader with twenty-six more scenarios that address problematic issues in a child’s life. The author, as in the other books in the series, follows each “parable” with a number of questions that are designed to promote discussion and problem resolution. In this offering, however, Humphrey also lists in the Table of Contents the specific issue addressed in each parable (e.g. Fair Play, Empathy, Attitude, Adapting to Change). This addition makes this book an invaluable tool for a teacher or parent who needs help addressing a specific behavioral or ethical topic. Most highly recommended for any teacher, parent, or grandparent interested in pursuing lively discussions regarding ethics and behavior with children.

Reviewer: Molly Williams – AAA Guest Reviewer

*Molly Williams is an Elementary District School Counselor.

This book is an extension of Sandra McLeod Humphrey’s 1995 version and full of lessons to help teach students about values that include: friendship, honesty, tolerance, responsibility, and empathy to just name a few. This is a wonderful resource for school counselors as much of our work is talking to students about these values and how to make good choices for themselves. The scenarios in this book could easily be used for a classroom guidance lesson, or in a small counseling group as a way to engage students in discussion about a particular topic.
