ABOUT THE AUTHOR

William H. McDonald Jr. is the Founder and  President Emeritus of “American Authors Association,” an all volunteer organization designed to help authors reach their next level of success through shared experiences, coaching, free reviews, and more. With such a large membership of military veterans, Bill went on to create a separate organization – “Military Writer’s Society of America.”

Bill is an author of several non-fiction and poetry books including his autobiography, “A Spiritual Warrior’s Journey.” He has been featured in recent two documentary films (Award winning film “In The Shadow of The Blade” – shown on The Military History Channel and a PBS TV special called “The Art of Healing” about PTSD and the arts).

Bill is a Vietnam veteran having served in 128th Assault Helicopter Company (The Tomahawks) at Phu Loi , South Vietnam from October 1966 through October 1967. He was a crew-chief/door-gunner on a Huey helicopter. He was shot down or forced down several times and was officially wounded once. He was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross, The Bronze Star, 14 Air Medals, The Purple Heart and other combat related awards and ribbons.

He has been counseling PTSD veterans for over three decades on his own. He speaks out at veteran and public events as an advocate for veterans. He has been a keynote speaker at many local, state and national veteran events including twice at Angel Fire Vietnam Veteran Memorial. He has been written about or interviewed in over 200 newspapers and has been on both the radio and TV almost weekly since 2002. He has also hosted weekly featured spot on K-Dade Web Radio interviewing veteran authors and celebrities.

He graduated from San Jose City College with an AA degree in Labor Studies and from The University of San Francisco with a BA degree in Public Service Administration. He was a professional SCUBA instructor for several years prior to his long career with the USPS where he retired from his Safety Manager’s job in 2001. Bill is a part-time minister. He is still married to his high school girl friend, has two grown children and three grandchildren. He currently resides in Elk Grove, California and is working on two new non-fiction books.
