ABOUT THE AUTHOR
It can be said that Shirley Parenteau returned to children’s books with an amphibious splash. After publishing 8 books ranging from picture book to YA science fiction while her 3 children were young, she turned her interests to women’s fiction. Six granddaughters sparked renewed interest in writing for children so when Shirley heard frogs singing one spring evening, fall silent at a sudden sound, then begin again, she thought, “Counting book.”
One Frog Sang, published by Candlewick Press in spring, 2007, won praise from reviewers and in spring of 2008, has been released by Scholastic Press in both book club and audio editions. Bears on Chairs, a playful rhyming book for primary age readers will be published by Candlewick Press in fall, 2009. Sparked by granddaughter Elizabeth when not quite three, the book asks the question, If 5 bears have 4 small chairs, can they share and still be fair?
The daughter of a journalist mother and a father who loved tall tales, Shirley finds the world of the imagination exciting and looks forward to sharing new literary adventures with her granddaughters.
